  my first rollercoaster ride was 25 years ago.

  the racer at kings island.

  it was alot of fun and for whatever reason, that was the last time.

  Yes, the Racer was top dog at the time, and one of a kind.

  I felt so brave at the time, but I am more reserved as time goes.

  I was looking at the pics at the Cedar Point Park, and they have 16 coasters! If you scroll through those pics you see a picture of the entire park with all the coasters in view. It takes my breath away. My kids are like, " Oh heck yes, I wanna go there"!

  Not me.... That just looks too intense.

  What really amazes me is that in that there are mostly "older" peeps on that 400 foot drop ride. It seems to me that kids who grew up riding are more willing to ride these extreme coasters.

  Mulan, would you ride that coaster in Cedar Point? It is a world record for height and speed.

  No Body At The Funeral?

  mini's thread about weddings and funerals had me intrigued.

  so did mulans reply about having a private and separate service.

  well, i've referred to this before, but it might be of interest to those who haven't been here too long.

  Mike,

  My Dad (not a jw) died and requested in writing in his will that no service whatsoever was to be.

  The night he died,my brothers and sisters met at his home, and read the will. I said, " We can't do that. Dad was a toughie, but we need some sort of service".

  We agreed to his cremation, but chose a simple burial service. His family and friends were present at a burial service, but we forbade "visitation" and embalming, etc.

  I feel that Dad deserved some semblance of recognition, and a proper burial. We respected his wishes to not be viewed in death, but also recognized that death and interrment needed to happen for the comfort of those in grief.

  As a side note, my brother (a stone cutter) handmade a most beautiful headstone. I am sure Dad would be proud and content.

  I think that some people feel so little self-esteem that they fail to realize that they will be grieved over, and the need for survivors to have a proper closure service.

  Oh my stars!

  Mulan, When we were waiting to board, a Mom and her kids intentionally rode in seperate cars....Made me feel like such a weenie. You go girl!

  Mike, I wish you well on that one. It looks like a wild ride! Do you ride alot of coasters?

  Ang, you are a braver woman than I am!!! That looks like an ejector seat on a jet plane!

  At least I had a floor to dig my toes into! lol

  BTW, that coaster pic I showed is called a "gigacoaster" the first of it's kind. A four hundred foot drop! I swear I get woozy just looking at it.

  My first rollercoaster ride was 25 years ago. The Racer at kings Island. It was alot of fun and for whatever reason, that was the last time.

  But we took our kids to Holiday World last weekend for a day of fun and we went directly to "the legend". Personally, I never would have done it but I was concerned about my youngest (happy 12th birthday to her today) riding alone, so I went with her.

  OMG!!! What was I thinking???!!!! I have never been so scared in my whole life! After I recouperated, I rode the Raven. Voted #1 wooden coaster on the planet. I thought it would be a milder ride but I was wrong. After a week of reflection, all I can think is I went through my second childhood. (I screamed like a wuss)LOLOL

  Last night, I took a look on the net at all the american coasters on the net. I came across one called "Top Thrill Dragster at cedar point". OMG, you have to see the pictures of this coaster!

  Older sisters and long hair- now a no-no?

  ran into a jw yesterday who didn't mind talking to me.

  she is 50+ and wears her hair long, about to the middle of her back.

  she said she's been told by the brothers to cut her hair, that women her age should have short hair styles.

  Jw's are grouped in with fundies. If you are a fundy, you think every single word (let alone sentence) of the bible is from gawd. Therefore the jw women are taught or believe that they should not "adorn their hair" or cut it, or make it too pretty.

  Trouble arises when they try to follow directives and it becomes long and loose and thus the hair bearer to the public looks too like another group who insists on long and loose hair on women (pentecostal).

  It also conflicts with the BUISINESS IMAGE, which the jws want to maintain.

  I look at it as a "salesman type" image that is perpetuated. Anything less than the business look will not be tolerated.

  Mama's Memorial

  most here remember that my mother died after her heart surgery on june 17th.

  she has four grown children, and we are very close now as always and feeling like we are now "orphans", without both our parents in this physical life.

  the kh in bradenton gave her a memorial on monday evening, july 5th.

  Thankyou for sharing your thoughts with us. I am touched by your honesty and openess. I am so sorry that your Mother has passed, My heart goes out to you and your family.

  I know how it hurts to lose a parent, and especially when a parent or loved one passes with these sort of special circumstances. I hope from my heart that you will feel no guilt for not attending the ceremony. That was not your wish. Funerals and Life good-byes are never by choice. You did a selfless act in not attending to appease others, and I admire your willingness to do what your Mother wanted.

  I continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and wish for you and yours comfort and hope in this time of loss. Please Pm me if I can help in any way at all.
